Video Interview with Stephen King

This video is a great interview of King talking about his career and why he chose his certain pathway. It is a bit dated, but it is still a great interaction with Stephen King. As I have mentioned before, King is regarded as one of the best authors that America has to offer but his work is not the most sophisticated as one might think. He talks down on these ideas where he says that horror and suspense are two different things. He says that horror is just to gross you out and that it’s a childish thing. But he says he writes more suspense novels where it is a lot more of a slow burn and high class. He talks about how he is a much better writer than he is a talker and i fully understand that. I have a speech impediment and a stutter so it’s hard to convey what i’m feeling all of the time verbally when I could fully write about how I fell. I’m glad im not the only one that feels this way. He goes into depth about his books and the characters he creates. He is definitely proud of his work, but he doesn’t fully create characters that he likes. some are just terrible people while others are there solely to help the plot move along. His mother realized that King was not like the other kids at a young age. He was really interested in this suspense field and that he looked up to a lot of different people in this field. Things like sherlock holmes was a big hit for him and it really helped to shape his stories. He wants to be remembered like Bram Stoker is remembered from Dracula. He has done a few first in the writing field where he talks about uncomfortable topics like losing your child or something like that. He wants his work to withstand time and I definitely feel like that have so far. I definitely have learned a great deal from this interview along with from Stephen king himself. He really opens up about his biggest fears about being unoriginal and its nice to see that successful people like him are not picture perfect as one might think.
